I enjoyed it. I feel satisfied with the ending. It could have been a much shorter book, most of the middle was pointless repetition with them moving sites. There was no point to Draco being semi-sympathetic towards the heroes (in the middle of the book, not the end.) I liked the little things that had no bearing one way or another (ie Kreacher warming up to them.) I could appreciate how it was more of the same, but with different sub-plots fitting in. To me it makes it fluid and really like a very long story instead of just volumes. Again, if I may be repetitious myself, there was way too much of just Harry, Ron and Hermione roaming around the countryside. We want more Luna! At least Ron would agree with me on that one. I like that Neville was the new sheriff in town. Finding out that Dumbledore was "flawed" seemed pointless to me. So do the Deathly Hallows come to think of it. Why couldn't Harry just ask the portrait of Dumbledore in the HM office what the deal was? Loved the visual of the items in the Lestranges vault multiplying when touched. That'll be fun for the movie. Normal lives at the end...that's all that kid ever wanted so I'm good with it.
I liked it, though it was certainly the least inventive and imaginative of the series. I think the title should have been Harry Potter and the Deus Ex Machina, given how often outside forces dropped by to save Harry, Ron and Hermione from harm. (The eye in the mirror? Really? And if House Elves were capable of overcoming protective enchantments, why were they not used by the Death Eaters, like, say, 5 books ago? Neville's ability to overcome the fact that he's on fire to pull the sword out of the hat?!? One could quibble for days)
There were bits of total genius, though, like the Tabooing of Voldemort's name, the use of Mandrakes in the Battle of Hogwarts, the Lestrange vault, and the Molly/Bellatrix Battle.
Two questions: Is the flayed child in the Kings Cross/purgatory chapter Voldemort's damaged soul? And what are the kid's careers in the coda? Is Hermione Ministress of Magic? Is Harry an Auror? Is there any need for Aurors in a post-Voldermort world?
Oh yeah, if patronai could send messages, they also could have used those 5 books ago.
Yes, I think it was Voldemort's soul (d'oh! There are Death Eaters at the door!)
Yes, there are still aurors, but they don't have nearly as much to do so soon after Voldemort's defeat. So instead, Harry became Seeker for the Chudley Cannons. He retired from playing 5 years prior and became Head Coach. The Cannons have won the Quidditch Cup for the last three years in a row!
Ron joined forces with "Holey" George in place of Fred and together they have been running the immensely popular Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes. Under Ron's Sales prowess, WWW now has retail outlets in every nation of Europe, the United States and Peru!
Hermione started a non-profit organziation lobbying for the rights of non-human magical creatures. Since it's more emcompassing than S.P.E.W, she named it F.R.O.W.N (Foundation for the Rights Of Wizarding Neighbors).
I finished the book last night on the plane. I liked it (although probably not as much as the others), but was it really necessary for it to have so many homages to Lord of the Rings?

Nice, LF! You're a master of alt HP fan fiction.
thanks! I desperately wanted to make Hermione's organization R.E.T.C.H. but couldn't make it happen.
