JK tells what happened to Harry...I was so close!

Rowling said the world was a sunnier, happier place after the seventh book and the death of Voldemort.

Harry Potter, who always voiced a desire to become an Auror, or someone who fights dark wizards, was named head of the Auror Department under the new wizarding government headed by his friend and ally, Kingsley Shacklebolt.

His wife, Ginny Weasley, stuck with her athletic career, playing for the Holyhead Harpies, the all-female Quidditch team. Eventually, Ginny left the team to raise their three children -- James, Albus and Lily -- while writing as the senior Quidditch correspondent for the wizarding newspaper, the Daily Prophet.

Harry's best friend Ron Weasley joined his brother, George, as a partner at their successful joke shop, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Hermione Granger, Ron's wife and the third person of the series' dark wizard fighting trio, furthered the rights of subjugated creatures, such as house elves, in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures before joining the magical law enforcement squad. The couple had two children -- Rose and Hugo.

Since we're on an HP thread...

Has anyone read it yet? I'm anxious to discuss.

Harry Potter says...

Oopsie! Turned Todd into a blast-ended skrewt!

HP & Order Of The Phoenix: Thumbs Down

Yep, another cranky review but man, there was no sense of excitement in this movie, no sense of adventure. Just a lot of hand wringing and fear, which didn't translate as exciting fear, rather I was annoyed that I was being put through the experience. And I was very bored throughout much of the middle. The big problem was there was no central emotional storyline that ran through the film. There was something vague about Harry being bummed about not having friends and family even though of course he does have friends and then there was a thing about his becoming evil as manifested by his anger, which is tritely played as a metaphor for puberty and also way too closely mirrors Spiderman 3. It's been done to death. I didn't know this until just now but this was the first of the HP films not to be written by Steve Kloves. I think that's a big part of the problem. The script's over-reliance on Harry's nightmares as a storytelling device is especially lazy.

On the plus side, Dolores Umbridge is just a brilliant character and was brilliantly played by Imelda Staunton. I especially loved that she, as the micro-villain of the story, was a not so thinly veiled stand-in for conservatism run amok in the presence of fear (and their use of fear to control hearts and minds.)

Songbook 10

Some bloggers like to do posts listing the ten songs that come up randomly on their IPod (random 10 they call it.) If I did that, there would be a lot of repetition made up largely of Coldplay and Ben Folds with some Madonna and All American Rejects thrown in. That'd be no fun. So I was sitting here listening to Dish Network's "Songbook" music channel and decided I'd post the ten songs that come up since the first few had a couple of freakin classic soft rock favorites. Prepare yourself for the least cool blog "random 10" ever recorded.
Every Day Is Like Sunday - The Pretenders (a nice mellow remake)
Everybody's Talkin' - Harry Nilsson (the song from Midnight Cowboy)
Dreaming With A Broken Heart - John Mayer (the only single from his new cd that doesn't suck)
I'll Have To Say I Love You With A Song - Jim Croce (awww yeahhhh)
Every Word - Sade (hadn't heard this before but love the title of the album it's on: Lovers Rock)
Til I Hear It From You - Gin Blossoms (ahh, takes me back to the good ole 20th)
Buckets of Rain - Bob Dylan ( I got nothin)
Drift Away - Uncle Kracker/Dobie Gray (ok, make it stop)
Sleep's Dark And Silent Gate - Jackson Browne (oy, kill me now)
Light In Your Eyes - Blessid Union Of Souls (is it really supposed to be spelled with an 'i'?)

"Dress Defying"

Apparently the Baltimore Sun concurs with Todd's opinion that Mrs. Vitter was wearing an animal print dress.

Lauren Simpson

As much as I liked the earlier post...

It's technically a floral print.

I've been Simpsonized

In theory, this is how I look as a Simpson (using the picture I posted on the blog from our newsletter).

I present to you the repentant senator from Louisiana during a press conference denying that he engaged in any untoward activities with Louisiana prostitutes (after admitting having sinned with DC prostitutes) and the woman to his left...his long suffering wife. Not a prostitute. Really.

Whom HWood is Supporting

Wacky. Billy Friedkin and Sherry Lansing are Richardson all the way! (She strikes me as an Obama gal.) And there must be fights in the Newman/Woodward household. She supports Barack, he supports Bill. And what has become of little Laura Ingalls, who maxed out with Rudy??

From the FAQ section of the juror pamphlet:

What if I do not speak English?

You do not need to speak perfect English to serve as a juror.

Worst. Reviewer. Ever

Yeah, the movie was silly. Yeah, the dialogue was atrocious at times (albeit homage to the cartoon as well). But so what? It was mindless fun!
