Happy Easter, Christian Grannies!

Who says you can't go home again?

Well, after an exhausting weekend, we're out of the temporary apartment and back in the house. The place is a mess and we're overwhelmed, but at least we're home. You might call it our own resurrection story. Now if only they could stop the roof leak and reassemble our closets, we'd have a true Easter miracle.

who knew?

[UPDATE] I took this photo at the Denver airport on my way to DC for the Take Back America conference. I thought it was pretty funny that a tornado shelter was even considered as an option at an urban airport. Struck me as not ha ha funny, but still funny...

Jury Duty Randomness

The juror room at the 111 N. Hill St. courthouse has wifi and desktop computers connected to the internet, so I've been blogging pretty much all day. Pretty sweet. At first I tried to use the desktop but they don't allow MyDD. Sheesh, it's not like it's porn!

So far I haven't been called. Jurors have only been called for 3 panels, one of which seemed like a sweet gig at traffic court up the street. The others were for extended trials, one of which was 90 days (2 people volunteered for that one and got applause for doing so.) Paramount only pays for up to 10 days of jury service so I don't think I was even considered for the 2 extended ones. Other than that there's been nothing. Hopefully I'll escape without being called. I just realized that I probably should have sought a post-ponement since I'm traveling on the 15th. Now I'm just banking on not being called so I'm off the hook for a year. Fingers crossed.

A tip to LA grannies who don't work downtown already (so, basically Lauren): if you find yourself wanting free daytime parking downtown on a weekday (I realize, not terribly likely) just park in the Walt Disney Hall parking garage and tell them you're a juror. They don't check for proof, they just give you a little juror ticket for your car and parking is free. Oh yeah, and eat at Mendocino Farms. Mmmmmmmm (thx, ck!)

Of Kings And Bastards

This from my uncle on our geneology.
John of Gaunt was a son of King Edward III.

John's long-time mistress was Catherine Roet. He had children by her, including Joan Beaufort who was born out of wedlock (hence, a bastard). After John's second wife died he married Catherine. At John's request the Parliament passed a law legitimating the children born of John and Catherine. Therefore, those children were, at one time or another, both bastards and legitimate, hence it allowed me to join the "Royal Bastard Society" and several "Royal" societies.

Joan married Ralph de Neville, a Knight of the Garter, and they had Sir Edward de Neville, Knight of the Garter, and so on down our line to Nancy Stout, wife of Edward Hart, son of John Hart the Signer. They had Elijah Hart, and so on down to you and me (without garters).

My grandmother on my mother's side was Virginia Hart.

High brow and low brow baby.

Interesting Real Time Reaction To Hillary's 3AM Ad

Interesting to see that it bombs with anyone not already a Clinton supporter. Maybe that was the point though, to reinforce her support among those who already were for her, but I have claimed and continue to claim that if she wins Texas, as it now appears she will, that it won't be because of this lame ad. Glad to see this analysis seems to back that up.
