[UPDATE]Haha. OK, well I happen to still have it open so I'll paste the question and the most popular answer below. It might actually be fake because it's so absurd but I like the idea that it's real.

I'm concerned that my son has a secret girlfriend?

My 17 year old son has been very secretive with me lately, recently he has started to refuse to go to church with the family and tonight when I was going through his room I found a magazine with naked men in it. He obviously has a girlfriend that he is hiding from me that brought that magazine into my home and I am afraid they are having intercourse and I am greatly concerned that he is going to get her pregnant.

What should I do about this?

He is not a homosexual, we have taught him from the bible and he has learned though our church that this is not in God's plan. I will not teach him about condoms, that is unacceptable, we have always taught him about abstinence and that is what God and his future wife expects from him.

I want to speak to our pastor about this but I am very afraid of what he would think we are teaching our son if he things we are allowing him to sneak a girl into his bedroom. That is clearly inappropriate and we are good parents, I am very afraid what he will think of us.

If your SON had a magazine of naken MEN I am doubting that he has a secret GIRLFRIEND. I'm thinking that your son it probably questioning his sexuality, or has already determined that he is gay.

The best thing to do is be open, honest and truthful. Tell him you were spying on him, and going through his belongings when you came across his hidden magazine. Ask, don't acuse, and if he doesn't want to talk to you about it, respect his wishes. Yelling or preaching to him about how "wrong" homosexuality is is not going to get him to open up to you.

You were wrong for snooping through your 17 year old son's belongings. Did you think you would find his secret girlfriend under his mattress?

EDIT: Let me see if I understand. You will not allow your son to be gay because the bible says it's wrong. You will not talk to your son about condoms because you feel it's wrong? So, your son is supposed to what... sit in his room alone and miserable because he might be feeling or doing something his mother would not condone? I think that being a good mother means listening to your son and accepting him for what he is. Whether he is gay or not is not something you have control over. Neither is his going out and having sex (or safe sex) if that is what he wants to do. Are you going to chain him to his bed so he can't leave? Drop him off at school and pick him up so you know he isn't doing something on the way there or home that YOU disapprove of? Give the kid some breathing room and hope you raised him right. I'm assuming that he will be graduating in May... are you going to forbid him from going to college because he WILL encounter homo-sexuals, bi-sexuals and heterosexuals engaging in safe sex. There will be sex, drugs, drinking, partying, swearing. Loosen the reins a little bit and believe that you reared him well. You're going on about being a "good mother" then believe that you did the best you could. No matter how much you preach your beliefs, opinions and morals he is his own person... not a clone of you. Trust that he is doing the right thing for himself, as you should have taught him to do... and not to listen to what others say about him.

Last night on the 210, as an accident up ahead was slowing traffic to a halt, I saw too late that the guy in front of me had already come to a complete stop. I slammed my brakes but just skidded right into him, my airbag deployed and the front of my car was crushed and smoking. I walked away fine -- my left wrist and right knee hurt but not badly enough to justify an ER visit -- the dude I hit was even more fine and his car was even more fine. Not really sure how that happened but if you're going to hit a car from behind I highly recommend hitting an SUV.

It was immediately clear to me that my poor little car was totaled and was not going anywhere so I had to abandon it in lanes, as they say. I grabbed my laptop and my favorite hat (priorities, hello,) threw on the hazards and made it through what was at that point a parking lot of cars to the side of the freeway. 10 or 15 minutes later, though, traffic had cleared up and CHiPs hadn't arrived yet so cars were whizzing by my car, some swerving to miss it at the last moment. Then the inevitable happened: a car slammed right into mine at what sounded like top speed. I just heard the crash and saw my car spinning around, glass and metal flying everywhere, but didn't ever see the car, which somehow kept driving.

sigh.

Hmm, maybe saying I walked away from the car in the condition you see it in below (Unbreakable, anyone?) would make a better story...

UPDATE: To elaborate, I'm in Chicago for Paresh's wedding. The tux that we're all wearing includes this sweet vest. Pretty funny. Tonight is some Indian folk dancing and tomorrow is the ceremony early and then the reception. Apparently there's some ritual where I have to keep Paresh's shoes from being stolen by the bride's side, otherwise he has to pay hundreds of dollars to get his shoes back before he can leave with his bride. I've heard tales of brothers of brides tackling the priest to get the shoes. Umm, yeah, I don't think I'll be doing much of that, thanks though.

Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied.
Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.
Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from.
It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning.
As of this point, the election is too close to call.
Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome.

The reports of broken down voting machines in Willingboro NJ were true and led to some pretty crazy long lines.

This is the least white town in the entire NJ-3 and so the Adler campaign sent over coffee and donuts to the masses waiting and when we arrived with the food the entire crowd was chating O-BA-MA and pumping their fists in defiance. this went on for about an hour.

it was such a moving site that is sends goosebumps up my arms just thinking about it.

The machines are fixed and NO ONE budged from the line.

Good for NJ, for Obama, for my boss John Adler and (mostly) for democracy.

That's the report on the ground from NJ-3 where the Congressional seat is still very much a tossup.

Defeating Proposition 8 is the number one priority for progressives in California this year. We know Barack is going to win the state but a lot of Barack voters are going to vote FOR 8, not understanding that he has been a vocal critic of it. So what can we do to help defeat it?

Well, first of all, let everyone know you oppose it. You can do this by talking to everyone you know personally, of course, but also by using the social networking sites to send the message that you are going to vote No on 8.

1. change your Facebook and Twitter profile pics to the No on 8 button.
2. change your Facebook status and tweet the fact that you changed your profile pic
3. follow @noonprop8 on Twitter and tell all your twitter friends to do the same

It's not much but it can actually have a real impact.
